Richard Cambridge is a former Boston Slam Champion, whose Fern Hill Records recording, “The Cigarette Papers” has led to national television and radio appearances as well as one man shows in major Boston theatres. An Allen Ginsberg Poetry Contest winner in 1993, he has published in such journals as Red Tree, Paterson Literary Review, Heartland Journal and Asheville Poetry Review. He currently lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he is working on a long poetic opera entitled Pulsa. “From the Belly of the Beast” is from !EMBARGO!, a dramatic mural of poetry, music and dance that brings to awareness the devastating effects of the 37-year U.S. economic blockade of Cuba. The troupe, “Singing with the Enemy,” is co-founded by Richard Cambridge. They have been invited by ICAP, Cuba’s Institute of Friendship with the Nations, to perform in Havana for the Cuba-U.S. Friendship Conference.
