Lawrence Ferlinghetti is the founder of City Lights Publishing Co. and City Lights Bookstore in San Francisco. He is a guiding voice of the “Beat Generation.” A few of his many books include Starting from San Francisco, Her, and Coney Island of the Mind. He attended UNC Chapel Hill, loves Wolfe and Sandburg, and now returns to North Carolina in this special issue.
