K. Kamal Ayyildiz was raised in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, but currently divides his time between New York City and Istanbul. His first book, The Cistern, a long poem about Istanbul, will be released by Citlembik in Oct. 2004. He has received a fellowship from the MacDowell Colony, and his poems have appeared in The Hollins Critic, Artemis, and Turquaz.
