George Ellison is a well-known writer and naturalist, who has lived in western North Carolina since 1973. He has contributed introductions to several books on regional subjects, including Kephart’s Our Southern Highlanders. He has been a columnist for the Asheville Citizen-Times, Chinquapin, and Blue Ridge Outdoors. In 1994 Unaka Range Press published a collection of his poems and essays, titled Permanent Camp.
