Carol Boggess

is Associate Professor of English at Mars Hill College where she teaches courses in writing, literature and English education. Her primary area of interest is the literature of the American Appalachian region. She is currently writing a biography of , whose book River of Earth was the subject of her dissertation in 1995. She is a member of the Appalachian Studies Association and the NC Humanities Council and lives with her family in Burnsville, NC.
